Built to Jump

Pumas have long, thick tails that can be two to three feet long. Their heads look small on their long bodies. Most pumas have grey or light brown fur. Some pumas have reddish or almost black color of the fur. Of all the big cats, pumas are the best jumpers. Pumas are powerfully built, with large, sharp claws and hind legs that are larger and more muscular then their front legs to give them great jumping power. Because of their strong legs, pumas can leap over 40 ft across flat ground without putting their paws down. Pumas can jump straight up to branches or rocks that are 15 feet above ground. They can also run as fast as a cheetahs to help them hunt and to change directions quickly.
